Liberté Linux

Desktop environment: LXDE
Architecture: x86
Based on: Gentoo
Wikipedia:

The last version | Released: 2012.3 | September 1, 2012

Liberté Linux – a secure, reliable, lightweight and easy to use Gentoo-based LiveUSB/SD/CD Linux distribution with the primary purpose of enabling anyone to communicate safely and covertly in hostile environments. Whether you are a privacy advocate, a dissident, or a sleeper agent, you are equally likely to find Liberté Linux useful as a mission-critical communication aid.

Liberté Linux is shipped with the Hardened Gentoo kernel, which includes all grsecurity/PaX security enhancements — radically improving system’s resistance to software exploits. Measures like service privileges separation provide additional protection.

All persistent changes are kept in a secure LUKS/OTFE volume, easily accessible from any operating system. This includes application settings that are archived upon shutdown, as well as any documents explicitly stored in the encrypted volume. The OTFE volume is just a file on the boot media that can be copied, backed up, or transparently resized from inside Liberté.

All networking activities like browsing and chatting are automatically Torified, with I2P locations transparently available as well. After the system receives a network address, the only external traffic it emits is encrypted communication on HTTP(S) ports (used by Tor). No other traffic is sent — not even DNS requests. I2P traffic is routed through Tor, too: you will be able to use I2P even behind the most restrictive firewalls. In addition, a special Unsafe Browser is available for the express purpose of registration in open Wi-Fi hotspots, if necessary. Liberté can be also booted in non-anonymous mode, with all other security features left intact.

Besides the encrypted volume on the boot media, Liberté leaves no traces in the system without explicit user consent (such as manually creating files on external automuonted media). Moreover, all volatile memory is thoroughly erased upon shutdown in order to prevent cold boot attacks — whether an orderly shutdown, or an immediate one due to abrupt removal of the boot media.

The project developer is Maxim Kammerer.

ComFusion combines the simplicity and power of Ubuntu with the beauty of Compiz Fusion, being able to run the 3D effects in the Live mode, without installation on a hard disk of a computer, loaded only into RAM memory.

The initial name of the distribution was Uberyl, emerged from combination of Ubuntu and Beryl. When the Compiz and Beryl projects were merged, creating a new project called Compiz Fusion, then Uberyl changed its name to the present one.

The live system contains a quite large set of preinstalled additional applications for daily usage.

The distribution is created and maintained by Marco A Pollolinux, and by and for the Linux community.

DoudouLinux – a Debian based Linux distribution specially designed for children (and their parents) to make computer use as easy and pleasant as possible for them.

DoudouLinux provides a set of applications that suit children from 2 to 12 years old and gives them an environment as easy to use as a gaming console. Kids can learn, discover and have fun without Dad and Mum always watching.

DoudouLinux can be run from a CDROM or USB flash disk, so it does not need installing on a hard drive. It does not touch the data in the computer it runs on, nor the system installed on the computer. Shipped with built-in content filtering, it prevents children from accidentally visiting unsavory web sites. It also preserves user privacy on the Internet, removes ads in web pages and blocks bugs, to get the best web experience.

DoudouLinux is available in several pre-configured languages.
As we provide only the English version of the iso image, the other ones can be found at the project’s download page.

KANOTIX – a Debian stable based Linux distribution, with advanced hardware detection.

KANOTIX uses the latest stable packages of KDE and LXDE desktops from the Debian stable and backports repository.
It can be used as a Live DVD/USB disk system without touching a hard drive, but can be installed to the hard disk using the graphical acritoxinstaller.

The founder of KANOTIX is Jörg Schirottke “Kano”.
The distribution derived from “Kano’s Scriptpage for Knoppix” and is under active development from 2003.
Between 2003 and 2006 KANOTIX was based on Debian unstable “Sid” up to version 2006-01-RC4. After that the base system has benn moved to Debian stable.
A few dewelopers of KANOTIX left the project after moving it to Debian stable, so they started a new Debian ‘Sid’ project called Sidux.
