Container Linux (previously: CoreOS) – an open source operating system based on the Linux kernel. It was designed to work on server stations, providing infrastructure to support computer clusters. The aim of the system is automation of operation, ease of application implementation, security, reliability and scalability.

CoreOS is a fork of Chrome OS – thanks to the software development kit (SDK) that comes with Chromium OS. Adding new features allows you to adapt your system to support the hardware used on your servers.

CoreOS provides only the minimal functionality required to deploy applications inside containers that provide isolated virtualization environments to safely run applications.

The system does not have a package manager, applications run in containers, using Docker and virtualization technology. This allows to run isolated Linux systems on a single host system and resource allocation is done through multiple isolated user spaces instead of using a hypervisor.

Sabayon Linux (previously RR4 Linux and RR64 Linux) – a Linux distribution developed by Fabio Erculiani, based on and fully compatible with Gentoo Linux. It uses the Entropy package management system that was specially developed for this distribution and Portage.

Entropy installs prepackaged packages which shortens the installation process compared to Portage. You can use Entropy with console or graphic user interface Equo or Ringo.

Sabayon supports x86 and amd64 architectures and is a rolling release distro, which means that you don’t have to install it from scratch after a new version is released. There are ready to go Live CDs/DVDs with GNOME, KDE, XFCE, MATE environments, a minimalist version with Fluxbox, which lets you customize the system according to your needs; and a version of SpinBase without a graphical environment.

To install the system on a hard drive, Sabayon uses the Anakonda installer known from Red Hat and Fedora.

Starting with version 16.06, Sabayon is also available for ARM machines (RaspberryPi).

The last version of Sabayon Linux are available for x86_64 machines only.

In November 2020, Sabayon has been rebranded to MocaccionoOS and merged the project with Funtoo Linux.

BitDefender Rescue CD – a rescue operating system based on Gentoo Linux and designed to scan disks and remove malware installed on your computer.

Rescue CD works in live mode, which allows you to clean your computer of viruses without booting the system itself. Thanks to this, it is possible to scan even those elements that are normally inaccessible when the system is running.

The Live system is built on top of Gentoo Linux and uses Xfce as the default desktop.
In addition to the anti-virus scanner that automatically starts when Live system starts, rescue CD comes with a set of basic applications that are part of the Xfce environment. If your computer has an active Internet connection, the antivirus program will automatically update its antivirus signature databases and scanning engines.

Older versions of BitDefender Rescue CD were based on KNOPPIX.

Gentoox – a specialist Linux distribution based on Gentoo Linux, created for the Xbox – a home video game console.

It retains all the features of the original (portage, sysvinit etc…) but has a patch system created from the ground up, which is specifically designed for Gentoox. “Magic” allows users to install new software, upgrade their kernel and fix bugs. To learn more about magic, run “magic usage” once you have installed Gentoox.

Gentoox runs along side games – you get 3 choices during installation: E, F and Native. Both E and F create a loopback filesystem meaning that none of your drives are formatted during installation (except for cache partitions). If you choose “Native”, then your F: partition is formatted to ReiserFS (making it inaccessible to Xbox applications).

Gentoox can be loaded via a .xbe file, or from a Cromwell based BIOS (which can be flashed to your modchip during installation). When using E or F installations, you are totally risk free – if you don’t like Gentoox, simply delete all the files it installs (about 7 in total) and its gone.

There are three versions of Gentoox: Pro Edition, Home Edition and Media Center Edition. All three are 100% free and opensource, the difference between Home and Pro is that the Home Edition has many software packages preinstalled and preconfigured for instant usability straight out of the box where as Pro doesn’t even have a graphical user interface let alone any “useful” applications. Pro is a bare minimum installation for booting the system, the entire customization of the OS is left in the user’s hands with Pro. Media Center edition is more of a “Plugin” than a separate distribution. It allows you to have a Media Center along with Gentoox Home or Pro.

The project developer is Thomas Pedley.

Litrix Linux – a Gentoo based Linux distribution in live CD format that can also be installed as a desktop operating system on x86 computers. The project was created and developed by Vagner Rodrigues between 2000 and 2011.

The first trial version of Litrix wes released in 2000 with the release of BZS (Brazilian Zip Slackware) a modified version of Slackware which was running on FAT 32 partitions giving an option to Windows 9X users who were not familiar with the GNU/Linux system to have the first contacts without the need to repartition the HD.

In late 2003 due to several problems with print servers and printer filters in Slackware, Vagner began looking for a better alternative to the print filters than APSFILTER used in Slackware.

After creating packages for Slackware from Foomatic + cups to Slackware, Vagner takes a copy of the script that generates the live CD Slax and develops Litrix Linux 1.0. Later Litrix Linux creates a fork of similarities with Slax and passes its own live CD generation script and CD boot.

In 2005 Litrix 2.1 was the time to say goodbye to the Slackware base and switch using the Gentoo base, allowing you to bring new features and ability to be customized for performance.
