Games Knoppix – a live, an entertainment-oriented Linux distribution based on Knoppix.

Games Knoppix offers 100 (approx) open-source games pre-installed on the board. There are no proprietary games such as Unreal Tournament 2004, Quake 3 Arena, NeverWinter Nights, or any other GNU/Linux-compatible commercial entertainment programs.

The knx2hd installation program is provided with the distribution, but it is not listed in the KDE menu. This utility installs Games Knoppix to your hard drive, should you decide that you like it enough to keep it as a permanent operating system.

Games Knoppix features some different applications, not only games, such as:
– multimedia: XMMS, Xine, K3b, KsCD, and Audaxcity
– net: Konqueror, Mozilla 1.7.3 with the Java and Acroread plug-ins, Gaim, Xchat2
– others: ZSNES, DOSbox emulator

It is based on Knoppix 4.0 and KDE 3.3.1 is the default desktop environment.
The last version of Games Knoppix was released in 2005.

SkatOS – an independent, very small, floppy disk size Linux distribution which plays the popular German card game Skat. It features full network client/server support so you can play Skat over LAN with friends.

The live system runs XSkat 4.0 based on BusyBox 0.60.5, uClibc 0.9.24 and TinyX 4.2.1 X Server with Linux kernel 2.2.26.

It uses SkatOSWM window manager – a very small window manager which centers all new windows on the screen. It was inspired by two other window managers: sWM and TinyWM.

To copy the live image onto a floppy disk, use the command:
dd if=skatos.img of=/dev/fd0

You can test it in QEMU too:
qemu-system-i386 /patch/to/skatos.img

The author of SkatOS is Bodo Giannone.
The latest version of SkatOS 2.0 was released in February 2007.

Commodore OS (Commodore OS Vision) – a Linux distribution based on Linux Mint, and created for Commodore and games fans.

Commodore OS Vision is available only for x86-64 architectures, uses the GNOME 2 desktop and features Compiz/Emerald desktop effects. It includes pre-installed many games, Firefox and Chromium web browsers, LibreOffice, Scribus, GIMP, Blender, OpenShot and Cinellera, Ardour and Audacity, Linux MultiMedia Studio, etc. It has a classic Commodore slant with a selection of applications reminiscent of their classic Amiga counterparts.

Commodore OS is not compatible with Commodore 64 software, but it contains VICE, an open-source emulator of the Commodore 64, Commodore 128, CBM-II, Commodore PET, Commodore VIC-20 and Commodore Plus/4.

Commodore OS is designed as a way to look as the old Commodore system.

Commodore OS Vision was developed by Commodore USA between 2011 and 2012.
The last version 1.0 beta 9 was based on Linux Mint 10.

There is also available a VirtualBox image.

Commodore OS 32 bit (COS) – a Linux distribution, developed by a guy called ‘spannernick’.
It is not related to Commodore OS Vision 64 bit, but it based on Linux Mint too, and looks similar to the 64 bit edition.

COS 32bit was made to be working on a Pentium 4 which is 32-bit processor. Commodore OS 32-bit will provide emulators so you can play the Commodore 64 and Amiga games and programs. Games and demos for the Commodore PET, VIC-20, CBM-II, C16, C64, C128 and Commodore AMIGA can be run.

GameDrift – a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and optimized to deliver the best possible gaming experience on Linux.

GameDrift features GNOME 2 desktop and only a few pre-installed applications.
It has the built-in CrossOver Games technology from American Codeweavers to let users install and run 1200 games designed for MS Windows.
There is also installed its own, on-line GameStore which lets users install native open source and commercial games for Linux.

SuperGamer – a live Linux distribution, based on Vector Linux and targeted to gamers.

The first release of SuperGamer was based on PCLinuxOS.
Starting from version 2, the SupeGamer Supreme is based on Vector Linux and fits to dual layer DVD media. It features some tweeks to speed up running from the live DVD, and includes proprietary video card drivers from NVIDIA and ATI.

My addition:
The iso image can’t boot properly on my machine – the X Server does not start, it works in text mode only. Tested live system from USB disk, and on virtual machines: QEMU, VirtualBox and VMware Player.

In April of 2018 a new version 3.0 has been published, which is based on Ubuntu and Linux Lite.
