aLinux (previously: Peanut Linux) – an independent Linux distribution targeted to home and small office users.

aLinux contains pre-installed a large set of applications of audio, video and graphics categories. It supports High Definition TV, so it is called as „Extreme Multimedia Center”.

The main desktop is KDE, but it is designed to have a Windows-style “look”.
The system uses RPM packages, and Synaptic as its GUI’s package manager.

The last stable version aLinux 15.0 featured KDE 3.10 and was released in February 2013.
The last (testing) version was 17.0 beta3.
aLinux founder and developer is Jay Klepacs.

The Live system user name is: root; and the password is blank.

AEROS – a hybrid distribution of AROS and Linux (Debian) available for ARM and x86 systems. It is an open-source reimplementation of the classic Amiga OS.

The hybrid combinations means that a one operating system hosts an another one. The host system is Debian, which has pre-installed VirtualBox and automatically runs the AROS operating system as a guest system.
Debian contains pre-installed ultra light Openbox window manager and Tint2 panel as well.

Thank’s to Linux kernel, AREOS features more drivers (printers, scanners, NIC, Videocards and is able to run every Linux application, including Wine, which enables the use of Windows (TM) apps without the need of Windows(TM).

Thank’s to having AROS on top Linux, the system can runs apps and games which come from Amiga It also allows you to use JanusUAE – an integrated Amiga emulation – a classic 68k Amiga apps can be used in coherency mode.

It contains the ophcrack tool – a Windows password cracker based on a time-memory trade-off using rainbow tables. It recovers 99.9% of alphanumeric passwords in seconds, and comes with a Graphical User Interface and runs on multiple platforms.

ophcrack LiveCD automates the retrieval, decryption, and cracking of passwords from a Windows system. The LiveCD is separately available for Windows XP, and for Windows Vista + Windows 7.

Ophcrack is being developed by Objectif Sécurité under the GPLv2 license.

DaxOS – a Linux distribution was under development between 2009 and 2013. The system is based on Ubuntu and uses Enlightenment as the default desktop.

DaxOS is available in four different variants, each one addressed to a different users:
– Desktop – to every user, it has the basic tools and applications designed for work, leisure and entertainment
– Kids – provides educational programs and games, designed for children
– Life – the environment for older users, provides tools which give easy access to modern technology
– Experimental – provides news of DaxOS, but the system is not stable.

DaxOS 1.0 – 1.15 “Ice” was based on Ubuntu Jaunty.
DaxOS 1.2 “Lion” was based on Ubuntu Maverick.
Version 1.3 “Fire” was based on Ubuntu Natty.
The last versions of DaxOS 2.0.x “Colibrí” were based on Ubuntu Precise.

The live system works in Spanish, but it is possible to switch to English.
Other languages are available during the system installation.
All versions are available for i686-class machines.

SimplyMEPIS – a live Linux distribution based on Debian stable and uses the KDE desktop environment.
It can be installed onto a hard drive or used as a Live DVD, which makes it externally bootable for troubleshooting and repairing many operating systems. It offers automatic hardware configuration, NTFS partition resizing, ACPI power management and WiFi support.

MEPIS was started by Warren Woodford and the eponymous company MEPIS LLC in 2002, and the first version was based on Knoppix.
The next releases were based on Debian stable, until version 6.0 (July 2006) and 6.5 which were based on Ubuntu. After that, SimplyMEPIS turned to Debian again.

The last available version of SimplyMEPIS 1.5 was released in July 2012, and was based on Debian “Wheezy”.

There are a few other distributions based on SimplyMEPIS:
– antiX – used very lightweight IceWM and Fluxbox window managers. It was based on SimplyMEPIS which is based on Debian stable, then changed its base to Debian testing. The last version of antiX 15 has been built using Devuan scripts and packages.
– MX – built on the top of antiX by MEPIS and antiX community members; it is based on the packages of Debian stable and uses Xfce desktop environment instead of IceWM.

Cinnarch – a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux shipped with Cinnamon as the default desktop environment.

Cinnarch is a rolling release and uses the Arch Linux official repositories, AUR and its own software repositories as well.
The package management tool is Pacman, but PacmanXG4 – a GUI front-end is available too.

Cinnarch offers a Live graphical installer called “Cnchi” as well as a text based too.

Cinnarch was under development between May 2012 (the first release) and April 2013.
Cinnamon is a Gnome 3 Shell fork, but due to problems with GTK+ 3.6 libraries, the developers switched to Gnome 3 desktop in the last Cinnarch release. After that the project has been closed and moved to the new one called “Antergos”.

SolusOS – a Debian based, beginner-friendly Linux distribution with GNOME 2 desktop.

SolusOS 1.x is based on stable version of Debian GNU/Linux “Squeeze”, and the first release was published in May 2012.
It features the GNOME 2 desktop, a set of applications for everyday tasks, such as: LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, XChat, OpenShot Video Editor, Transmission, VLC, PlayOnLinux, Java and Flash plugins, Synaptic package manager, etc.
SolusOS FirstRunWizard helps installing non-free drivers for NVidia and ATI graphics cards.

The next release of SolusOS 2 was built from stretch.
It used GNOME 2 desktop and then its own fork of GNOME 2 Flashback (the GNOME 3 Fallback Mode), called “Consort”.
The project has been closed in 2013.

The founder and developer of SolusOS is Ikey Doherty.

There is another project develops by Ikey – EvolveOS, which uses Budgie desktop. It was renamed to Solus in 2015, so make sure that SolusOS and Solus are two different projects.

CrunchBang Linux – a Debian based Linux distribution featuring the lightweight Openbox window manager.

CrunchBang offers customized Openbox window manager and pre-installed applications which use the GTK+ widget toolkit.

Previously CrunchBang was based on Ubuntu (9.04), until its support has been ended.
CrunchBang 10 “Statler” was made in February 2011, and was the first version that was based on Debian stable “Sueeze”.
The next (and the last) version of CrunchBang 11 “Waldorf”, was made available on 6 May 2013.

Each CrunchBang Linux release was given a code name, using a name of a Muppet Show character.

The founder and developer of CrunchBang Linux is Philip Newborough.
On 6 February 2015 he officially stopped developing CrunchBang.
