OpenELEC (Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center) – a free, embedded, source-based operating system providing a complete media center software suite. OpenELEC is a small and fast-booting Linux distribution.

OpenELEC is based on the Linux kernel and providing a complete XBMC based multimedia center. It allows users to manage a home entertainment center (home theater) offering easy access to TV channels, DVD player and Sky box.

Unlike orhers operating systems, OpenELEC is very small and fast, however it allows you to manage and configure the system and devices.
OpenELEC is available for machines/devices such as: i386, x86_64 and Raspberry Pi.

To install OpenELEC:
– unpack the downloaded OpenELEC archive
– create a bootable Live USB using included script (256MB minimum)
– boot the computer from the USB drive, which will run the Live installer
– install OpenELEC on the second USB Flash drive (2GB)

Starting from version 5.0, OpenELEC is equipped with Kodi (formerly XBMC).
With the release of version 6.0, support for i386 machines was dropped.
