Yellow Dog Linux – an open source operating system based on Linux kernel and focused on GPU systems and computers using the Power Architecture. It was the first Linux distribution released in the spring of 1999 for the Apple Macintosh PowerPC-based computers. It is targeted to home, office, server, and cluster users.

Yellow Dog Linux is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS and relies on the RPM Package Manager.
YUP (Yellow Dog Updater) has been specially created for Yellow Dog Linux, and was adapted for other RPM based distributions with the name YUM (Yellowdog Updater, Modified).

The first release of Yellow Dog Linux was published in 1999.
Started from version 5, Yellow Dog Linux uses Enlightenment as its default desktop, but others DE’s like KDE, Gnome or Xfce were available too.
The last version 7.0 was released in 2012.

The system includes user applications such as:

n00bix – a Linux distribution built on the top of Debian with Enlightenment 17 desktop.

n00bix uses a lightweight Enlightenment 17 window manager as its default desktop which makes the operating system fast and light. n00bix works in Live mode and can be installed on a hard drive.

The latest version of n00bix 2 is based on Debian GNU/Linux “Jessie”.

The live system contains a set of pre-installed applications for every purpose, as well as 3th party apps, such as:
– Network: FileZilla, Geary Mail, Google Chrome, Google Earth, Skype, Transmission, XChat

DaxOS – a Linux distribution was under development between 2009 and 2013. The system is based on Ubuntu and uses Enlightenment as the default desktop.

DaxOS is available in four different variants, each one addressed to a different users:
– Desktop – to every user, it has the basic tools and applications designed for work, leisure and entertainment
– Kids – provides educational programs and games, designed for children
– Life – the environment for older users, provides tools which give easy access to modern technology
– Experimental – provides news of DaxOS, but the system is not stable.

DaxOS 1.0 – 1.15 “Ice” was based on Ubuntu Jaunty.
DaxOS 1.2 “Lion” was based on Ubuntu Maverick.
Version 1.3 “Fire” was based on Ubuntu Natty.
The last versions of DaxOS 2.0.x “Colibrí” were based on Ubuntu Precise.

The live system works in Spanish, but it is possible to switch to English.
Other languages are available during the system installation.
All versions are available for i686-class machines.

gOS (good OS) – an Ubuntu based Linux distribution created by Good OS LLC. The company initially advertised gOS as “An alternative OS with Google Apps and other Web 2.0 apps for the modern user.”

gOS features Enlightenment window manager (up to version 2) and then Gnome desktop environment, and integration of various Google products and services. The desktop theme was similar in appearance to Mac OS X Leopard.

Time line:
This first version of gOS 1.0.1 was released in November 2007, and was based on Ubuntu 7.10 and the Enlightenment 17 window manager.
gOS v2 Rocket G was released in February 2008 and was using the GNOME desktop environment instead of E17 and the Avant Window Navigator dock.
gOS 2.9 Space was released in April 2008, and featured GNOME with Compiz-Fusion, and the Avant Window Navigator.
gOS 3.0 Gadgets was released on the gOS website on September 23, 2008, and was based on Ubuntu 8.04.1. It features Google Gadgets integrated into the desktop and includes Wine 1.0 and Mozilla Prism.
The last available version is gOS 3.1 Gadgets which was launched on January 3, 2009.

gOS was under development between 2007 and 2009.

Pingwinek – a Polish project which offers two separated distributions based on Linux kernel and Haiku.

Pingwinek GNU/Linux is an independent distribution which provides a live system with a few desktop environments and window managers of your choice: Gnome, Xfce, Enlightenment, Matchbox, EDE and IceWM.

The live 1.7GB iso image has a large set of pre-installed applications, such as:

Pingwinek GNU/Haiku is probably the first Haiku distribution. Beside the base Haiku system, it contains 40 packages ported from Pingwinek GNU/Linux distribution. It contains compiler (GCC 2.95.3), several simple games, SDL, Midnight Commander, ncurses.
The distribution doesn’t have an installer which could install system on a hard disk.

The founder and developer of Pingwinek is Grzegorz Dąbrowski.

OpenGEU – a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and uses Enlightenment window manager.
The project has started as Geubuntu which featured a mix of GNOME and Enlightenment on the top of Ubuntu 7.04 base. Dut to conflict around the name (included *buntu), the name of it has been changed to OpenGEU.

OpenGEU was presented as an artistic distribution. There are two main themes of OpenGEU were available: Sunshine and Moonlight, as well as a few alternative themes too. Starting with OpenGEU 8.10 Luna Serena, a port of Compiz called Ecomorph has been available for 3D effects.
OpenGEU had pre-installed many e17 modules to easy configure the system and a set of applications from the GNOME desktop.

In January 2010, after releasing the last version of OpenGEU 9.04, the system has been turned to Debian as its base, but any next iso images never been published.

The project started and designed by the Italian artist Luca De Marini (aka TheDarkMaster).

It’s a user-friendly distro with a set of pre-installed applications for daily usage and some useful tweaks.

It provides a few different editions of the system with different desktop environment.
The latest Snowlinux editions are:
– 4.0 “Glacier” with Enlightenment17, MATE and Xfce desktops, based on Debian “Wheezy”
– 4.0 “Frosty” with Cinnamon an MATE desktops, based on Ubuntu 13.04 “Raring Ringtail”
