Tuquito – a GNU/Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, and created in Argentina. It fits on a Live CD, among that include Firefox, LibreOffice, GIMP, gThumb, VLC and Empathy and uses Cinnamon as a desktop environment.

Some of the characteristics of Tuquito are:
– automatic detection of hard drives on your PC, leaving them available on your desktop with just one click
– good printer support
– scanners support
– support of webcams, including the models of intel and genius
– automatic detection of digital cameras, pendrive, hot plugs
– boot from a pendrive or a CD media

The latest version of Tuquito is 6 (beta) offers a minimalist and usable graphical interface, which is based on the concepts of Web 2.0 technology.
Is has a system configuration tool, called Tuquito Control Center which lets useres configure their systems in easy and intuitive way.

Some applications developed by Tuquito’s team:
– APTITO: download accelerator for APT
– Control Center: A very intuitive control center
– Tuquito RSS: Notifier of events of the official sites of Tuquito (RSS Reader)
– Hook: Generator of backup copies and personalized distributions

– Tuquito WIA: Application that notifies where the newly installed applications are located

Linux LiveCD Router – a Slackware based Linux distribution which allows you to share, firewall and optimize your broadband connection. You can use DSL, ADSL 5 Mbps+, Cable Modem, T1, Fixed IPs, Dial-Up, WiFi and more. Includes traffic priority settings for VoIP and other apps. Can avoid ISP traffic limiting.

Linux LiveCD Router works on a minimal configuration of a 486 PC, 16 MBytes of RAM, Bootable CDrom Reader, 1 or more Ethernet Cards.
Linux LiveCD Router automatically detects one or more ethernet cards, even if they are on-board cards. If you are using ISA cards you have to manually use the commands listed on the file /etc/modules.conf to detect them.

CDrouter is preconfigured for an external generic modem connected at the serial port 0 (/dev/ttyS0), and supports all ADSL modems that are connected through an ethernet card, as well as PPPoE modems. In addition the USB modems Alcatel SpeedTouch and Conexant AccessRunner are supported.

DNALinux – a Virtual Machine with a Linux distribution with bioinformatics software pre-installed. DNALinux Virtual Desktop Python for Bioinformatics edition is based on Xubuntu 8.04. There are old (and unsupported) versions of DNALinux that are based on SLAX, which is a small live version of Slackware.

The OS includes programs such as: NCBI BLAST, NCBI NetBLAST, EMBOSS, ESIM4 (EMBOSS SIM4), MSE, Phylip, Biopython, BioPerl, Kalign, Clustalx and Clustalw, njplot, Polyxmass, Primer3, Rasmol, Sigma-align, t_coffe, xviewg, Treeviewx, hmmer, NCBI-epcr, Cn3D NCBI Database Viewer, DDV Sequence Alignment Viewer, Entrez NCBI Database Querying Tool, OneD Biological Sequence Viewer, PyMOL Molecular Graphics System, Sequin DNA Sequence Submission Tool.

DNALinux is made by Genes Digitales and Quilmes National University, Argentina.
Version 0.2 of DNALinux was released on March 11, 2004, the latest version based on Slax was 0.592 and was released April 19, 2006.

Dragora GNU/Linux-Libre – a written entirely from scratch, and trustworthy GNU/Linux-Libre distribution based on the concept of simplicity with the goal of being a multi-purpose operating system.

Dragora contains 100% free software and uses a Linux-libre kernel, and is one of the “entirely free GNU/Linux distros” endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. It has a very simple packaging system that allows installing, removing, upgrading and creating packages.

The project developer is Matias A. Fonzo.
The latest version of Dragora 2.2 was released in 2012, but the project is still alive.

Musix GNU/Linux – a Linux distribution, based on Debian GNU/Linux and targeted to music and video creators.

Musix contains a large set of pre-installed free applications for audio production, graphic design and video editing.
The live system can be installed on a hard drive. It also can be used as a Live system from a DVD or USB, with an option of stored live settings (persistent).

KDE is the default desktop environment, but there are a few other desktops available too: GNOME, LXDE, Fluxbox and IceWM.
The main language used in the Live system is Spanish, with Portuguese, English and French support as well.

Musix GNU+Linux is one of the few GNU/Linux distributions recognized by the Free Software Foundation as completly free.
The initiator and co-director of the project is Marcos Germán Guglielmetti.
The project started in 2005 (?).

UTUTO – a Linux distribution based on Gentoo and consisting entirely of free software. It is a desktop system designed to be used by home and office users.

UTUTO is compiled using Gentoo Linux “ebuilds” and “emerge” software. UTUTO uses Ututo-Get, a tool for maintaining a package database modeled after Debian’s APT, but as other Gentoo-based distros, the system is compatible with Portage.

UTUTO was developed by the Universidad Nacional de Salta in Argentina between 2000 and 2012.

There are a few variants of UTUTO, such as:
– Ututo-R which offered the possibility of operating like a software router
– Ututo-e which was the most important derivative of Ututo
