mOnOwall – a FreeBSD based operating system which provides configured and ready to use firewall. mOnOwall provides a very small image which can be put on Compact Flash cards, CD-ROMs or installed on hard disks.

mOnOwall features:
– Stateful packet filter firewall
– IPsec and PPTP VPNs
– Inbound and Outbound Network Address Translation
– Captive portal
– Traffic shaper
– Inbound and Outbound port filtering
– Support for 802.1q compatible VLANs
– Multiple IP addresses on LAN and WAN ports
– IPS

Unlike other operating systems, mOnOwall stores its configuration in one single XML text file.

The founder of mOnOwall is Manuel Kasper.
After 12 years of development, on February 15, 2015 the project has ended.

There are a few forks of mOnOwall available, such as: t1n1wall, SmallWall, m0n0wall mod, pfSense, OPNsense.

  1. Hey! What’s the big idea?
    Why are you hijacking the m0n0wall project?!
    Manuel ended development in Feb 2015, and donated his work to OpenSense ( opnsense.org )
    In fact Manuel’ M0n0wall web site still works just fine:
    m0n0.ch/wall/index.php

    You should really check with the developers before doing this sort of thing!
