Bardinux – an official distribution of the University of La Laguna (ULL), Canary Islands, Spain; which is based on GNU/Linux (Xubuntu), originally based on Kubuntu, developed by the Office of Free Software to cover the software needs of the members of the university community of the ULL. In this distribution, the most relevant software for the realization of practices, research and general use has been compiled, in easily installable packages.

In the distribution, the needs of the majority of university students have been taken into account, so the available applications are very varied:
– Office suite: OpenOffice.
– Browsers: Mozilla Firefox.
– Mail clients: Mozilla Thunderbird.
– Graphic design: Inkscape, Scribus, Blender, Yafray, …
– Audio players: Amarok.
– Photo retouching: Gimp.
– And a long etc…

The Office of Free Software of the University of La Laguna is the entity of the University created to promote the use of Free Software and open standards. In addition to Bardinux, multiple projects have been created, such as student mail, the virtual hard drive, and others intended for training, such as the ISLA courses, courses for teachers and the PAS.
