KANOTIX – a Debian stable based Linux distribution, with advanced hardware detection.

KANOTIX uses the latest stable packages of KDE and LXDE desktops from the Debian stable and backports repository.
It can be used as a Live DVD/USB disk system without touching a hard drive, but can be installed to the hard disk using the graphical acritoxinstaller.

The founder of KANOTIX is Jörg Schirottke “Kano”.
The distribution derived from “Kano’s Scriptpage for Knoppix” and is under active development from 2003.
Between 2003 and 2006 KANOTIX was based on Debian unstable “Sid” up to version 2006-01-RC4. After that the base system has benn moved to Debian stable.
A few dewelopers of KANOTIX left the project after moving it to Debian stable, so they started a new Debian ‘Sid’ project called Sidux.

Kanotix 2020 Silverfire have been released in March 2020, after 6 years of break at the project development.

KANOTIX 2024 Slowfire released in April 2024.
