JUX – a Knoppix based Linux distribution created in 2003 for NetBridge, the Coordination Centre of information and communication technologies in extracurricular of youth work in Vienna. The developers aim to create an easy install and easy to use operating system, where various versions appeal to different target groups, for children with fun.
The software runs from a live CD, and doesn’t have to be installed on a hard disk. All data can be backed up during use of it, and are available only for this session.
JUX can gather children safely and playful first experience with the computer.
An approach to the computer under the following aspects to support the programs on the CD:
– getting knowledge of the controls
– supported sound painting
– understanding first game concepts
– virtual room experience
The project was under development between 2003 and 2011.
