JabirOS – an independent operating system, forked from FreeBSD 10.
JabirOS provides an installable/live iso image with pre-installed Xfce desktop environment and a basic set of user’s applications.
The system’s kernel is also independent, but forked from FreeBSD.
The default package manager is ‚pkg2ng’ – a fork of ‚pkg’, which manages ‘txz’ packages.
The ‚pkg’ package manager is also available, after installing the system on a hard drive.
The project started in 2012.
The first version of of JabirOS 1.0 was based on a Linux distribution Ubuntu.
JabirOS 2.0 is originally based on FreeBSD, but completely forked from it and has its own packages and kernel.
JabirOS 2 was created for machines: x86_64, ARM Cubieboard and Raspberry Pi.
Features:
– Desktop oriented Unix OS
– Suitable for all computers
– Optimized for AMD64 (PC) and ARM(SBC boards, Tablets, etc.)
– Optimized for server
It was one of the coolest projects I’ve ever built. I did some projects after which were much bigger, but this particular one was the best.
BTW, this is the JabirOS inventor talking 🙂
