Bayanihan – a Debian derivative Linux distribution aimed at creating an easy to use alternative desktop-oriented operating system particularly for use in the Philippines, to be used in schools and offices.

The Bayanihan Project began in 2001 as a pioneer initiative towards the creation of an alternative and open source desktop solution by the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) of the Philippines. Throughout the years, the Bayanihan Team has yielded several products including Bayanihan Desktop, BLTCM.

The word “Bayanihan” relates to a Filipino tradition where people in a community help their neighbour in physically moving their house to a different place.
