The project was made in Salento by two Italian programmers.
They said that it is: “stable and versatile, suitable for everyone, from children to the most savvy users” and is characterized by “a constantly updated software and, of course, FREE!
It is one of the first (if not the first) Slackware-based distro to use as default Window Manager Gnome 2.12 (and for this we must thank the Gware team). But to learn more about the software included in this distro we refer to section Features of our site The installer is almost entirely in Italian (translation by Eros Palnerti, Antonio Perrone and Fabio Viola)”.

Frankie Linux – a minimal but powerful distribution of Slackware GNU Linux. Frankie Linux is base on the technology from a famous compact distribution named CD-Linux. It is small in size, yet rich in features.

You can use Frankie Linux as your “Mobile/Pocket OS”. Install it onto a USB key, take it anywhere and turn any PC/Mac that supports booting from USB to your own workstation, with the same user interface. Frankie Linux ships with an up-to-date version of the Linux kernel, Xorg, Xfce, and many popular applications, like Firefox, Pidgin, GIMP, and even Java and Wine. Just work anywhere like at home.

You can also use Frankie Linux as a handy admin/rescue tool. For this purpose, the much smaller “standard” edition is enough. The standard edition bundled with a lot of popular admin/rescue tools, like parted, partimage, partclone, testdisk, foremost, ext3grep, e2undel, e2fs/jfs/hfs/ntfs/reiserfs/vfat/xfs tools, and much more. Enough for your routine admin/rescue work.

Splack Linux – a Linux distribution based on Slackware, for Sparc and Ultrasparc architecture.

Slackware Linux is the oldest distribution still in service and a common distribution for users among the GULCR (Grupo de Usuarios de Linux de Costa Rica) as well as the FuerzaG hacker group and in servers for Universidad Latina (ULatina) that were using the i386 architecture, as this the only architecture supported by the distribution at the time. The big servers all where Sun and ran Solaris 2.6.

For some time Slackware turned into a team with some people in charge of PPC port, and David Cantrell in charge of a port for sparc that I used quite a bit. We had a lot of Sun hardware available at ULatina and it was my favorite distribution. At the time to use other architectures Debian GNU/Linux was, and still is the default as they supported about 8 architectures at the time.

The Slackware sparc port didn’t lived long but was more than enough to get kernel, basic libraries and ssh and other tools on a Sun workstation or server.

Splack project was under active development between 2001-Jul-14 and 2006-Aug-05.
The project developer is Alvaro Figueroa.
