Shift Linux – a GNU/Linux distribution based on the Ubuntu (previously on Morphix Linux) project in the form of a Live CD. It is a multi-functional system compatible with all Ubuntu package repositories. It is available in several editions, depending on the graphical environment and window manager used (there is a release for weaker machines using the Fluxbox window manager).

Shift Linux provides a set of the most popular utility applications in the open source world. You can find there such programs as: GVim, Revelation, Xine, Pidgin, gDesklets, GIMP, gThumb, AbiWord and many others.

Shift Linux 0.6 were released in the following versions: Shift Linux 0.6 Gnome, Shift Linux 0.6 KDE4, and Shift Linux 0.6 Lite (for older computers). Shift Linux Lite contains two less resource hogging desk managers (XFCE-4 and Fluxbox), but has a full compliment of packages and utilities.

As of version 0.6 of Shift Linux has moved away from it’s Morphix base so is based on Ubuntu. This version incorporates Firefox 3 (GranParadiso), OpenOffice, new themes, and a tested installer.
