Ulteo – an Ubuntu based, GNU/Linux distribution created in March 2006, and developed by Gaël Duval, the creator of Mandrake (now Mandriva). Ulteo is intended to be a very easy to use and maintain system that changes perception of a computer. The system is to satisfy a wide range of recipients: from beginner computer users to programmers and people very experienced in this field.

Ulteo is not a regular GNU/Linux distribution – it comes in two versions:
– Traditional version – installs on disk
– “Connected Desktop” version

The traditional version of Ulteo was released on December 6, 2006 and compiled for the x86-32 architecture. The minimum required memory is 256 MB of RAM. It is a LiveCD that can be installed on the computer’s hard disk.

The Connected Desktop lets you run the operating system directly in a web browser. The technology uses” AJAX “technology, so a browser is required with JavaScript support.
