Russix – a live CD Linux distribution for wireless penetration testing & WEP cracking. It’s Slax based distro, which is based on the Slackware Linux, and uses the KDE desktop environment.

Russix evolved from an internal UK Military Wireless auditing tool (Debian based) which russ had developed while working for them as a penetration tester.

It scripts together several WLAN attacks and will allow the user to break a WEP key in about 6 keystrokes! It will not be modified by us to make it into a phishing tool as that would be evil.

It comprises a number of tools including aircrack-ng, cowpatty, asleap, nmap, wireshark, hydra, as well as scripted attacks to aid cracking WEP and WPA networks. Currently, it only supports Atheros based chipsets and those of you lucky enough to own 2 atheros cards will be able to use the scripted Evil Twin attack.

The latest version of Russix was released in February 2008, and was based on Slax 5.1.8.

AliXe – a Slax based, small and compact Linux distribution, making it particularly suitable for older hardware. True to it’s Canadian heritage, AliXe also offers full support for both French and English despite it’s small size.

AliXe is designed to be run as a live CD. An optional installer (not included in the iso) is available for a conventional hard drive installation. AliXe also offers the option to run entirely cached in RAM provided you have enough memory. AliXe is built with the Linux Live scripts so a frugal install, similar to Damn Small Linux, where the iso image is installed directly to the hard drive and is booted read-only, is also possible.

The AliXe code base is a heavily modified version of Slax 6rc6, which in turn is based on Slackware 12. Unlike Slax, which uses KDE for the desktop environment, AliXe uses the smaller, lighter, but still powerful Xfce. In order to remain small AliXe offers just one of each type of application it provides, including the desktop.

AFROS – Atari FRee Operating System. It used to be distributed in the form of a harddisk image but now it’s just a plain set of files creating preinstalled TOS compatible EmuTOS/FreeMiNT/fVDI/XaAES based operating system. In the combination of ARAnyM/Linux and AFROS you basically get a completely free TOS/MiNT compatible operating system running on any machine where Linux runs.

ARAnyM/AFROS Live CD is a SLAX-based bootable CD with a small collection of GNU/Linux software, the ARAnyM and the AFROS. It boots and runs completely from CD, does not write anything to the hard drive on its own, but you can write to hard drive from inside the AFROS using the drive D:.

ARAnyM is a software virtual machine (similar to VirtualBox or Bochs) designed and developed for running 32-bit Atari ST/TT/Falcon operating systems (TOS, FreeMiNT, MagiC and Linux-m68k) and TOS/GEM applications on any kind of hardware – be it an IBM clone (read it as “PC”), an Apple, an Unix server, a graphics workstation or even a portable computer.

The developer of ARAnyM and AFROS is Petr Stehlik.
