FUSS (Free Upgrade in Southtyrol’s Schools) – a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, dedicated to schools. It contains a large set of pre-installed applications for educational purpose, and Italian language set as default.
FUSS can be used as a live system without installation, and can be installed on a hard drive too.
The first version of FUSS GNU/Linux called “Soledad” (released in 2005), made it possible to update all computer systems of all Italian schools of the autonomous province Bolzano to replace proprietary software by the open-sourced Linux distribution.
The project was financed and contributed by the Fondo Sociale Europeo.
The current version is 6.0 “Argon”, based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
