Aurox – a Linux distribution based on Red Hat, offers with multimedia support and a few locales, such as: English, Polish, Czech, German, French, and Spanish.
The first version of Aurox Linux 8.0 “Starter” has been prepared by Robert Główczyński and Jarosław Górny, as a remastered version of Red Hat Linux 8.0 in 2002. The distribution had a full support for Polish language, two desktops environment: KDE and GNOME, as well as a few light ones: Xfce, Fluxbox and Window Maker.
Aurox 9.3 was released in March 2004 and was based on the packages of Fedora Core 1.
The big goal of Aurox was the large set of pre-installed applications, such as:
– Office: OpenOffice.org, KOffice, Planner
– Net: Mozilla Suite, Evolution, KMail, GNU Gadu, TleenX
– Multimedia: xine, MPlayer
– Education: KGeo, Dr Genius
– Graphics: GIMP
– Games: Pingus, Tux Racer, FreedroidRPG
and out of the box support for Polish broadband providers: Era BlueConnect and Neostrada TP.
The CDs was published with the “Aurox Linux” magazine (out of Poland) and Polish “Linux+ Extra” magazine, as well as via ftp download too. The last version of Aurox 12.0 was released in 2006, and then Aurox has been sold to a company ‘Coba Solutions’.
