VMKnoppix (previously: Xenoppix) – a Linux live CD based on Knoppix distro, which ships with all the well-known virtualization solutions: Xen, KVM, VirtualBox, QEMU and KQEMU, UserModeLinux. The developer also supply the Inetboot and Etherboot/GPXE tools to support loading of network-based boot images.
Features:
– it’s a live CD distribution, which means you don’t have to install/reinstall the OS on your hard drive just because you want to try out some virtualization technology
– most of virtualization solutions as part of the distribution – you don’t have to search for their latest versions, you don’t need to compile anything – all the tools are ready for immediate use
– great virtualization playground – you’re unlikely to find something as suitable and as useful for your virtualization experiments
The latest live system is based on Knoppix Version 3.5.1.
Great one. Deepest thanks.
It seems like the most innovative distributions dried up with the economic downturn of 2008.
I am searching for clustering solutions, the live CDs/DVDs and vm images of Kerrighed. One Kerrighed project’s website is still up, kerlabs.com, but download links are broken.
I am also looking for vm images of XtreemOS (French clustering research group’s grid computing solution). If you want live .ISOs of XtreemOS, please email me and I can get them to you. It took many months of hard digging to find the XtreemOS .ISOs when I was on the hunt for them about 10 years ago.
Again, my thanks.
