Tablix on Morphix – a bootable CD based Linux distribution with automatic cluster configuration. This means that all you need for a functioning PVM3 cluster is a bunch of computers and a pile of Tablix on Morphix CDs. You just have to boot the master node of the cluster from the CD, click a few options on the screen, then boot as many slave nodes as you want and click OK on each.

What is Tablix?
Tablix is a powerful free software kernel implementing a parallel genetic algorithm. It can be used to solve a large subset of discreet multivariable optimization problems, but is specially optimized for timetabling. Because of its modular design it is relatively simple to adapt Tablix to needs of a specific organization. Coarse-grained parallel algorithm can also fully exploit any multi-processor machine that supports PVM3 – from modern multi-core CPUs to clusters of low-end machines connected by a local area network. Specifically this means most users will want to use Tablix on Linux or another UNIX-like operating system.

Tablix on Morphix comes preinstalled with all programs that are needed for solving timetable problems with Tablix. Some of the software available on the CD:
– mlview, gedit, vim (for editing Tablix XML configuration)
– mozilla (for previewing generated timetables! )
– ggv (for reading documentation)
– most of GNOME desktop environment

Version 0.0.1 is the first experimental release of this project.

The project developer is Tomaz Solc.

Morphix-NLP – a Live CD Linux distribution with a rich collection of Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. Though the field of NLP has undergone decades of intensive research, software designed in the NLP community are often scattered around the net and are not known by the larger computer user community. Consequently, most NLP software can not be found in mainstream distributions even years after the first public release.

The purpose of this CD is twofold:
– In the first place, it tries to break the software acquisition and installation barrier facing many researchers and students in the NLP community by providing most NLP related software on a single Live CD.
– In the second place, the CD can be used to promote Natural Language Processing among average computer users. Simply plugging the CD into cd-drive and watching some NLP applications in action, most users will get some knowledge of Natural Language Processing and what NLP can do.

One goal of Morphix-NLP is to include as much NLP software as possible. However, NLP includes a broad range of topics and there are new software emerge every day. It very likely that some great NLP applications are not included just because the maintainer did not notice it.

Here is a general guideline on choosing software to include:
– Only software with a license that permits freely redistribution and unlimited usage can be included. Academic-free license is ok. Please bear in mind that Open Source project will always have a higher privilege for inclusion than Close Source, binary only distributed software.
– Commercial software, 30-day trial software, limit-function demo software will not be included. This is not a demo CD shipped with magazines.

The project developer is Zhang Le.

Linux – a thin client Linux distribution and administrative interface.

Clients boot off the CD-ROM, eliminating the need for a local operating system or hard drive. It loads the browser with a custom configuration that will highlight a single site or allow the user access to the entire Internet, as long as a broadband connection is available. Because the system runs from the network and a CD-ROM, no local operating system or hard drive is required.
