iPadOS – the Apple Inc.’s operating system for iPad devices, first unveiled on June 3, 2019, at the annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).

It is an iOS-based operating system optimized for the company’s tablets. Previously, iPad tablets ran iOS, but version 13, unveiled at the same WWDC conference, dropped support for all iPad models. Since then, iOS has been available exclusively for iPhones and iPod touch music players.

The system was presented on June 3, 2019, at the WWDC conference. It was built on the iOS operating system previously used by Apple tablets, but its operation has been optimized for use on larger screens (the smallest iPad mini tablets have a 7.9-inch screen).

The main changes to the system’s performance compared to iOS include an improved split-screen view, the ability to run two instances of the same app in two windows, a desktop-style view of web pages in Safari, the ability to use external storage devices connected directly to the communication port (Lightning or USB-C, depending on the iPad model), and mouse support.
