Bioknoppix – a Knoppix based live Linux distribution with open source applications targeted for the molecular biologist.
Bioknoppix includes tools for DNA and protein sequence analysis, namely DNA -> protein translation, binary and multiple sequence alignment, pattern search, 3D structure visualisation, and bioinformatics toolkits for perl and python (BioPerl and BioPhyton).
The live system is built on the top of Knoppix 3.3, based on the Linux kernel 2.4.22-xfs, and KDE 3.1.4.
The last version of Bioknoppix 0.2.1 was released in February 2004.
The developer of Bioknoppix is Carlos M Rodriguez from the University of Puerto Rico.
