System 3 – a version of the Mac OS operating system, released in January 1986 by Apple Computer. The System 3 successor is System 4.

System 3.0 and Finder 5.1 was introduced with the Macintosh Plus in 1986, officially implementing HFS instead of MFS, 800K startup drives, support for several new technologies including SCSI and AppleShare, and Trash “bulging”.

The Macintosh Plus computer is the third model in the Macintosh line, introduced on January 16, 1986, two years after the original Macintosh and a little more than a year after the Macintosh 512K, with a price tag of US$2,599.
