Milan TOS – a TOS-compatible computer system that was planned as the successor to the Atari ST computers.

Milan Computer purchased the rights to the Atati TOS operating system in 1998.

It was developed by MILAN-Computersystems GbR. The system was launched on the market in 1998 and is no longer manufactured today. The basic model is called MILAN 040, which refers to the Motorola 68040 central unit. The MILAN 040 could later be retrofitted with a Motorola 68060. The special feature of the system is that the TOS operating system is located in a flash ROM. This enables the computer to boot up quickly. The use of standard PC components was intended to reduce production costs and improve later expandability.

The successor to the MILAN 040 was to be the MILAN 060 or MILAN II. Equipped with a Motorola 68060 as the main processor and USB interfaces, the MILAN II was to be sold through department stores and specialist retailers. A prototype had already been completed. However, series production did not take place. The management of MILAN-Computersystems GbR justified this in 2000 by saying that important components of the motherboard were no longer available.

The MILAN 040 is based on an AT-format motherboard, it has three ISA slots, four PCI slots, four banks for EDO RAM, two IDE interfaces, a floppy interface, a connection for a PS/2 mouse, keyboard connection, a parallel interface and two serial interfaces.

The TOS operating system has the version number 4.08 and is a further development of the TOS of the Atari Falcon 030.

In addition to the TOS, the MILAN-MultiOS was also supplied. This TOS-compatible operating system is also installed on the hard disk and offers the user preemptive multitasking. MILAN-MultiOS is a special version of N.AES. This in turn is based on a MiNT kernel.

Later, the TOS-compatible MagiC operating system was also available as another alternative for the MILAN.
