Lapis Linux – a Turkish Linux distribution, was a project of the Lapis Community which was using the GNOME and KDE desktop environments and RPM package systems. Lapis lazuli stone, which is the symbol of the Linux Lovers group, which plays an important role for the Turkish Linux community, was chosen as the name.

Lapis Linux set out with the goal of being a stable, easy-to-use Linux distribution with complete Turkish literacy. It was based on the PCLinuxOS distribution, one of the most popular distributions of the time.

The RPM package system, originally used by the PCLinuxOS distribution, was also available with Lapis Linux, but this was discontinued with the release of version 1.2. The Smart package manager was used throughout the system, and packages consisted entirely of LapisLinux packages. The packages were inspired by PCLinuxOS but stripped of some unnecessary dependencies and compiled for the i686 architecture.

Lapis Linux was installed from a single CD. The same CD could be used as both an installation CD and a live CD.

As a distribution with full Turkish support, it offers a user-friendly and functional operating system for Linux users in Türkiye and new users. Among the default applications in Lapis Linux and available in the repositories are the Gnome desktop version 2.22, the KDE desktop version 3.5.9, the powerful open source office suite OpenOffice.org version 2.4.0, and the 3D desktop effects application Compiz version 0.7.6. Unlike many distributions, the Mozilla Firefox internet browser is also available with version 2.0.0.14, including Flash and Java plugins.

Lapis Linux was under active development between 2007 and 2009.
