Asteriks Live! CD – a bootable CD with a copy of asterisk on it.

The live CD is Linux based, with open source PBX software that provides voice over IP in three protocols and is interoperable with most standards-based telephony equipment using comparatively inexpensive hardware.

The Live CD provides a base system on which you can test/play with asterisk without having to actually go through the trouble of installing it.

PBX (Private Branch Exchange) is a telephone exchange managed by a user, usually a company or institution, forming the internal telephone network of the company and usually connected by several lines to the telephone operator’s central office.

Asterisk will allow routing of calls between voip and the pstn, the use of least cost routing etc.

The project developer is Andy Powell.
