illumian – an open-source operating system that combines technologies from Nexenta OS, OpenIndiana and Debian GNU/Linux.
illumian is a successor of a discontinued Nexenta OS which appears to be made by a merge of the Nexenta OS and OpenIndiana development teams.

illumian uses illumos kernel and Debian’s userland, including APT package manager. illumian is available as dual-arch installable CD ISO image that includes software packages optimized for both the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

The first (and the last) release of the illumian distribution includes only a minimal collection of packages, similar to what is installed using the OpenIndiana “text mode” installer. This distribution uses the same versions of externally maintained packages as the OpenIndiana project uses, most of which are maintained in the illumos-userland gate.
